Telemedicine
Telemedicine uses interactive video technology to perform(or conduct) live audio and visual communication technology between a patient and a specialist who are separated by distance.
Nelson County Health System is proud to be able to offer telemedicine services to our patients through Altru Health System. The visit will occur in our telemedicine room located at NCHS Hospital. Patients will be able to meet with their specialist (who is in another location) with the help of a telemed nurse who operates the cameras and helps to relay the patient's needs to the specialist. The patient is able to hear and see the specialist as if the specialist is in the room with them. The equipment used is transferred over dedicated and private internet connection.
Having this opportunity available in our rural community is a wonderful way for patients to be able to connect with specialists throughout the region without having to travel the long distance.

We encourage you to ask your provider to have a telemedicine appointment at NCHS. New specialties can be added.
